Philippines' leading health care provider PhilCare partnered with Samsung Electronics Philippines Co. to offer the first near field communication or NFC-capable membership card designed to make availment of health services from hospitals faster, more efficient, and close to paperless.

“We are proud to introduce this new technology to the HMO industry.

We’ve been looking for the best technology to make medical services smoother and more convenient for our clients and providers and NFC seems to be the perfect fit for this goal,” said Noemi Azura, CEO & President, PhilCare.

The NFC-capable card means to do away with the usual tedious process of availing health services from health maintenance organizations (HMO). In most cases, hospitals require cardholders to secure letters of authorization from their HMOs before getting medical services.

All these are no longer necessary for NFC-powered PhilCare cards as members only need to hand over their cards to any of the 200 service providers of PhilCare with NFC-capable phones from Samsung. In short, the technology shortens the processing in verifying the beneficiaries HMO coverage when confining in any Philcare accredited hospitals and clinics.

With a single tap, hospitals and clinics can now determine coverage and benefits of a member, as well as other details of the member’s account. Here's a demo on how the Samsung-Philhealth technology works

NFC technology is used by banks, retail, transport, and service providers worldwide and has been deployed to accommodate wireless payments.

Samsung smartphones have long been equipped with NFC technology, used for quick file transfers, payments and other transactions. Each mobile device is equipped with security features from the hardware level, and can be further enhanced with Samsung’s propriety security platform to protect such transactions from being leaked or breached.

With Samsung’s growing number of reliable nationwide service centers certified especially for Samsung Business, the company’s enterprise or business-to-business (B2B) arm, the partnership is expected to deliver even more advanced services in the years to come.

“R&D is at the heart of what we do, allowing us to continuously produce innovative products and offer progressive solutions for like-minded, forward looking institutions like PhilCare. Ultimately, it is our goal to enrich the lives of people,” said Chad Sotelo, Corporate Marketing Head, Samsung Electronics Philippines Co.

This new technology is the first of its kind in the Philippine health care industry and allows patient information to be updated in real-time, ensuring quick, efficient, and accurate service.

“We are very excited with this technology and in the future we hope to set up a rewards program for members with the NFC cards,” Azura said.

With this official launch, Philcare is setting their pace in terms of health innovation to their beneficiaries as this is not the first time that they adapted technology to their business. In 2013, Philhealth introduced PhilCare’s Go! Mobile app is designed as a quick reference guide for members on their coverage and benefits while also giving access to complete lists of PhilCare-affiliated hospitals, clinics, and doctors. And last year, they officially released app for IOS (For Apple users) and Android phones.

Availing their benefits is never been easier with the help of Samsung Technology and Philhealth, which continuing its support to their beneficiaries.

Acer and WD Announced the Bring Your Own Cloud via My Cloud NAS

World's largets PC maker Acer, and a private cloud solution provider, and leading storage maker WD (Western Digital) officially annouced the merging of WD's My Cloud Network Attached Service (NAS) and ACER's BYOC (Build Your Own Cloud) environment. This means that ACER users who are using their BYOC system can access their files via WD My Cloud NAS system to any personal computer or mobile devices — in short you will be having you own, and personal Cloud storage at your home using ACER's abFiles app which you can use it on your smartphone.

Maverick Shih, President of Acer for BYOC Business Group is excited to welcome WD on their BYOC ecosystem. "The availability of abFiles for the My Cloud platform allows our joint customers to enjoy seamless file management across their personal devices, with all of their files always at their fingertips, regardless of whether the file is on their PC or their NAS drive.” — Words from Maverick Shih.

Sven Rathjen, VP and GM of Network Content Solutions for WD said that they are also delighted with the partnership with ACER about the cloud solution. “Now our customers can find abFiles on the My Cloud app center to download for free, and incorporate their My Cloud into Acer’s BYOC ecosystem.” — Sven Rathjen

For the average user, what will be the benefit of the partnership?

Acer abFiles makes it easy to access files stored on a user’s PC or NAS from any of their devices over a wireless or mobile network, making file management on the go easier than ever. After installing the abFiles app on their My Cloud NAS (supported models: My Cloud Mirror, My Cloud Expert Series and My Cloud Business Series), the user will only need to sign-in with their Acer ID through the web administration interface, and the My Cloud will be added to their personal BYOC setup, with files readily accessible from any of their connected devices. Users retain the privacy and control of their files as they are located on NAS devices physically in their home or office under their control rather than in a remote datacenter.

It means that you will have more space for your selfies, mp3's, video streaming, and documents which they are supporting as we speak — this one will be ideal to SOHO setup.

For anyone who are interested to use Cloud as their storage, whether for Business or Personal; here are some of the videos:
